As a lifelong learner and educator, these are the competencies that best represent me as an elementary school teacher.
Agility, Adaptability & Capacity for Lifelong Learning: I am a fast learner who is open to expanding my knowledge and awareness of various topics.
Civic, Ethical & Professional Responsibility: Especially as educators we have the responsibility to always behave in a respectful and professional manner despite any circumstance. Along with respecting each other we need to respect the land as well.
Collaboration & Teamwork: 2 is better than 1 or 3 in this case. Learning is so much more meaningful when it is done as a team. With collaboration we are all able to share our unique ideas to be able to create something beautiful.
Communication: I believe I am able to use both written and oral language to effectively express my thoughts.
Creativity & Innovation: I like to think outside of the box and put my own creative spin on material.
Critical Thinking: It was during my assessment course where I got to put my critical thinking cap on. During this course, I was able to reflect on the way I was assessed as a young student, how I am currently assessed and how I want to assess.
Digital Literacy: This e-portfolio is a great example of my digital literacy. I am able to use my learning journey as a way to communicate and share information by creating a personal website.
Effectively Accessing & Analyzing Information: As an educator we are continuously learning; therefore we need to find quick and effective strategies to access information and to make sure that it is credible.
Multiple Languages & Cultural Awareness: I am fluent in 2 languages (English and Punjabi). I believe it is a great asset to speak more than one language. Also, I really value diversity and I have tried to incorporate this into most of my presentations during my BEd program (e.g. First Nations and Sikh culture).
Problem Solver: During my practicums I have learned that it is important to think on the spot because problems can arise at any time and we need to become comfortable with finding a solution.
