Educators value the success of all students. Educators care for students and act in their best interests.

Relationships

Throughout my practicum experiences, my main goal was to develop a relationship with all of my students. Firstly, I would focus on remembering names because that is the best way to build a relationship with your students. I would pay attention to what students were interested in and would incorporate their interests into my conversations as well as the lessons I would plan. Some students I connected more easily with than others but I tried to focus on the children that were a bit more difficult to get to know. I would acknowledge every student in the morning when they would walk inside the classroom. I make sure to keep a positive attitude when I am around my students and keep a smile on my face at all times because my behaviour reflects onto the children. Here is a picture of what the students gave me on my last day at Mission Central Elementary. It was a very heart warming moment for me to realize the impact I made on their lives.

Sharing Circle

During my time at Harwin Elementary, I would always do a sharing circle at the beginning of the lesson to ask how they were feeling at this moment. This was good to keep in mind during the lesson because I was able to adapt the lesson according to their needs.

Food Bank

At Mission Central Elementary, the EA in my class would go to the food bank every week so that we always had snacks for the students. During snack time and lunch time, I would ask the entire class if they wanted a certain snack to ensure everyone’s basic needs were meet and that so no one felt excluded.
